"A great friend spotted me in my blue donegal tweed suit and said ’Sargent’s Henry James’!, so when it came to sitting for Celia that was in my mind, especially with my left hand tucked in to my waistcoat. What has emerged is something marvellous and very different. No tenebrist, dark and sombre hues, but the light that came in through her studio window and the sounds of birds. The process of sitting was in part a therapy session, fantastic talk and through the medium and process, a deepening of our friendship; how I wish that I could begin again, just for that joyful conversation. She has a light touch and has reached, with her paintbrush, into my soul."
